We may not have had the most traditional wedding ever. There was a sing-a-long, my ring is not a diamond, and the reception was in a renovated textile factory. We handled the music ourselves, so we had everything from Queen to Ray Charles to Social Distortion. John even got to play some catch during the reception, which was one of the highlights of his day (other than, you know, marrying me. Right, hon?) We’re more into practical than we are traditional, and pretty much just did what we wanted in regards to our wedding planning.
Which is probably why I’ve spent so much time checking out Offbeat Bride. They have a ton of advice that’s useful for any sort of ceremony, but if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, you’ll definitely find it here. One of my favorite “I’d have never thought of that!” suggestions – using salt and pepper shakers as cake toppers. They’re really less about being offbeat than they are about being authentic, and having a wedding day that represents the people getting married. Which is kind of the point, right?
